Jane Hedges was installed as Dean of Norwich at a service on 21 June 2014. She is the 39th Dean of Norwich and the first female Dean in Norwich Cathedral’s 900 year history. She previously served as Archdeacon of Westminster, within the Diocese of London and Sub-Dean of Westminster Abbey.
Hedges trained for ministry at Cranmer Hall, Durham in 1978, after a first degree at Durham University, becoming a deaconess in 1980.
She was curate of Holy Trinity with Street Columba, Fareham 1980-1983, and a team vicar in Southampton 1983-1988. In 1988, she became Stewardship Adviser in the Diocese of Portsmouth then in 1993, she became Canon Residentiary of Portsmouth Cathedral.
From 2001 she served in the team ministry of Honiton, in the Diocese of Exeter, becoming rural Dean. In 2006, she moved to London, as Canon Steward of Westminster Abbey and Archdeacon of Westminster.
In 2013, she became Sub-Dean of Westminster Abbey.
