(The Three-Week Trance Diet is a funny fantasy novel, winn...)
The Three-Week Trance Diet is a funny fantasy novel, winner of the Carpenter Press First Novel Award. Reviewer Rick Henry said, "Jane Piirto serves up a lip-smacking, gum-popping narrative stance in The Three-Week Trance Diet. She spices it up with a plot that has more twists than a soap opera, and garnishes it with a cast of characters ranging from a dyslexic brat armed with a little more than the usual sixteen-year-old, to a line of high kickers from a Broadway show cheering on a biker named O.D. in a duel. The result? A sparkling feast for readers." Finalists in the Carpenter Press Tenth Anniversary First Novel Competition were judged independently by Terry Stokes and Judy Hogan. The Three-Week Trance Diet is a post-feminist satire, at times fantastical, about feminine rivalry, marriage, and exploitation—sexual and otherwise. In the words of judge Judy Hogan, “It has zest, fun; it hits hard at cultural folly, and it’s one I would enjoy re-reading . . . and reading out loud to friends.”

(This is a book of 5 nonfiction essays, 33 poems,and 6 sho...)
This is a book of 5 nonfiction essays, 33 poems, and 6 short stories about the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It focuses on Cleveland Location in Ishpeming, Michigan. If you’re a little snobbish about your books, maybe you’ll like this one. It’s readable but literary. It’s deep but simple. It’s interesting because it’s about an exotic and somewhat unknown region of the U.S., the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, with its own culture. The author is an award-winning novelist, poet, and scholar. Essays such as "Da Yoopers Deconstructed," poems such as "I Will Never Love Anyone The Way I Loved James Dean," and stories such as "Blueberry Season" and "Does It Snow In Vietnam?" recapture small mining town life of mid-and late-twentieth century.
