In 1956, Janet Barley graduated from Bowling Green State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism.
From 1956 till 1957, Janet Barley occupied the post of the women’s editor of the Xenia Daily Gazette, Xenia, Ohio, United States. Then, from 1957 till 1959, she served as an information services officer in the United States Air Force.
Barley also worked as writer, editor, and public relations specialist for organizations including Hospice of Dayton, Wright State University, LOGTEC and Systems Research Laboratories in Dayton, Ohio, United States, and Birmingham Community House in Birmingham, Michigan, United States.
Since 1968, she has been working as a freelance writer.
