January Ramberg graduated in 1955 from Uppsala University, and obtained his Doctor of Laws from Stockholm University in 1970.

From 1970 to 1997 he worked as a civil law professor, and from 1994 to 1996, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Law. From 1980 to 1985, he was the Chairman and Director of Transecure South America Luxemburg. As Vice President of the International Chamber of Commerce"s Commission on International Commercial Practice and Chairman of a work group which in 1980, 1990, and 2000 prepared Incoterm document revisions, he has been involved in international trade law and practices development for more than three decades.
Ramberg is the author of many academic books and articles on contract law, maritime law, transport law and Incoterms, published in English, German and Swedish.
Ramberg is also a member of the International Arbitration Court of London. Ramberg has actively worked in the sphere of maritime law, having been the President of the Maritime Law Association of Sweden, a member of the editorial board of Lloyd"s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly, President of the Board of the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law, as well as the Honorary Vice-President of the Comité Maritime International.
