Maratos was born on September 14, 1943 in Athens, Greece; the son of Jason and Anna Maratos.
Maratos received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Athens in 1969. Four years later he was given a diploma in Psychological Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In 1976, Jason earned his Master of Philosophy degree in Psychiatry from the Institute of Psychiatry of the University of London.
Maratos began his career as a house physician in General Medicine and Paediatrics at Hackney Hospital in 1969. A year later he took a position of a senior house officer in Psychiatry at Bexley Hospital and Brook General Hospital. In 1971, Jason was appointed a senior house officer in Psychiatry at St. Bartholomew's and Hackney Hospitals. In 1972, he became a registrar in Psychiatry at the London Hospital.
He served as a registrar in Neurology at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital London from 1974 to 1975. In 1976, Maratos became a senior registrar in Child Psychiatry and had held the position for four years at Royal Free Hospital, Holloway Child Guidance Clinic and University College Hospital.
In 1980, he was appointed a consultant psychiatrist at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Since 2000 Jason has been a consultant psychiatrist at Psychiatric and Psychological Consultant Services Limited.
