Jean-François Bouchard was born in 1968 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Jean-François Bouchard received his secondary education at a boarding school Collège Notre-Dame du Sacré-Cœur in Montreal.
Then, he pursued his studies at the University of Ottawa where he obtained a diploma in law.
At the beginning of his career, Jean-François Bouchard served as an articling lawyer at Lavery and at the Ministère du Revenu du Québec. In 1993, Jean-François Bouchard co-founded a creative agency Sid Lee along with an art director Philippe Meunier. The first clients of the company included the Greek restaurant, a plumber, and Bouchard’s dentist. The subsequent years, it worked for Cirque du Soleil, Adidas, The North Face, Absolut Vodka, Videotron, Ubisoft, and others. Sid Lee has in total 30 partners around the world. From 1993 to the beginning of 2017, Bouchard served as a Chief Executive Officer of Sid Lee.
Jean-François Bouchard is also a co-founder and head of C2 Montréal. Founded with the support of Cirque du Soleil and Stephen and Claudia Bronfman, the company deals with the organization of annual global innovation conference on commerce and creativity. It also collaborates with such corporations as EY, Michelin, and Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal.
In 2003, Bouchard tried his hand for the first time in contemporary visual art and became a photographer. Since then, he has traveled around the world taking shots of people who are not typical in their interests and lifestyles. His photo projects include ‘Secret Societies’, ‘Transpose’, ‘Escape from Babylon’, and the most recent ‘In Guns We Trust’. He has exhibited his works in Canada, the United States, and France, having a lot of solo shows and taking part in many group exhibitions, including the presentations at Paris Nuit Blanche, the Miami Nuit Blanche, and Art Souterrain in Montréal.
The most recent solo show of Bouchard which is focused on gun culture in the United States, ‘In Guns We Trust’, was opened at Arsenal Contemporary Gallery in New York City at the end of April 2019.
Nowadays, Jean-François Bouchard lives and works in Montreal, Canada.
