Jennifer Hornyak was born in 1940 in Grimsby, United Kingdom.
Jennifer Hornyak studied art at the Grimsby School from 1956 to 1959. Two years later, she pursued her education at McGill University, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and at the Saidye Bronfman Centre (currently Segal Centre for Performing Arts) in Canada.
Jennifer Hornyak emerged to the art scene in the middle of the 1980s with her first solo shows in 1984 and 1985 at Galerie Claude Lafitte in Montreal. She was noted by art reviewer André Martin and then presented her artworks at the group show at Nancy Poole's Studio in Toronto two years later.
Hornyak became a protégée of Baroness Marie-Hélène de Rothschild who invited the artist to take part at the Paris World Exhibition that same year. The show boosted Hornyak’s popularity that provided the painter with more exhibitions, including the first shows in the United States and France. By the 1990s, Hornyak's paintings had been featured in several international art periodicals like American ARTnews, Art in America, french Beaux-Arts, and Chinese Mizue.
Since the beginning of her artistic career, Jennifer Hornyak has shown her figurative canvases all around North America, and abroad.
Hornyak has also been on the other side of the art events sitting on a jury of many Canadian art contests and communities, including the 1991 American Women’s Art Show, the 2011 OKWA Festival in Kingston, Ontario, and the 2013 Women’s Art Society. She has tried herself as an educator holding workshops around the country as well.
Nowadays, the artist lives and works in Montreal.
Jennifer Hornyak is an accomplished artist whose figurative and abstract canvases are widely recognized both by art critics and art amateurs.
Hornyak’s art is in many prestigious collections, both public and private, including Bell Canada Enterprises, Imperial Oil, Hoechst Canada Inc., Power Corporation, Groupe La Laurentienne, Hyatt Regency Hotel, La Presse, MacNaughton Collection, and others.
In 2018, the artist’s ‘Le trapèze’ (Trapeze) was purchased for $542 at Iégor auction house.
