Jeredith Merrin spent her childhood in the Pacific Northwest.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1968. Ten years later, Merrin completed a Master of Arts in English from San Jose State University which was followed in 1987 by a Ph.D. in Anglo-American Poetry and Poetics at the University of California, Berkeley.
Jeredith Merrin started her career at the University of California, Berkeley where she served as an instructor in a gifted education program from 1983 to 1985. Two years after she left the post, Merrin became an assistant professor at Ohio State University, Columbus. By 1993, she was appointed an associate professor and served in that capacity for four years.
As to Merrin’s writing activity, one of her first publications became an important book of criticism ‘An Enabling Humility: Marianne Moore, Elizabeth Bishop, and the Uses of Humility’, issued in 1990. The debut poetry collection of the author, ‘Shift’, followed seven years later. It was an introspective collection of verse about family members and her female lover, who has undergone treatment for cancer. The work generated mixed reviews among critics.
During the subsequent years, Jeredith Merrin completed two more collections of poems, ‘Bat Ode’ and ‘CUP’.
Merrin’s articles and literary reviews, as well as her poetry, have been published in various issue-related journals, such as the Southern Review, the Hudson Review, Ploughshares, Ms., the Paris Review, and other periodicals.
Nowadays, a retired Professor of English, Jeredith Merrin lives not far from Phoenix, Arizona.
