JENKS, Jeremiah Whipple was born in 1856.
Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Doctor of Laws Michigan, 1878, 1879, 1903. Doctor of Philosophy University Halle, Germany, 1885.
Jenks was perhaps the first American academic economist to devote a large part of his career to service on central government boards and commissions, chiefly on questions of trusts and immigration but also on cur
rency and taxation problems in China, Mexico and the Philippines. At the age of 56, he switched fields from economics to politics and began a second career as academic and government consultant. He was a voluminous writer who published almost as many books on the readings of Vesus as on economic and political subjects.
