America and baseball are rediscovering the game played by African Americans before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947. We now know a great deal about the Negro Leagues of 1920 on, and their great stars—Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and their contemporaries. But what of the pre-1920 black game?
Jerry Malloy finished Rockford College, obtaining Bachelor of Arts in 1968. He was a graduated of University of California, Santa Barbara, from which he received Master of Arts in 1972.
Mr. Malloy served at U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. He worked at Osco Drug, Libertyville, IL, holding the position of a clerk since 1972. His firtst book was Sol White’s History of Colored Baseball, with Other Documents on the Early Black Game.
