Gulseth competed in Mission Illinois United States of America 2004 pageant and placed in the semi-finals. This state pageant attracted 129 delegates. Gulseth is involved with the Pi Beta Phi sorority and supports many philanthropic causes.
Her other hobbies consist of soccer, volleyball, dancing and shopping.
In November 2005, Gulseth passed on her Mission Illinois United States of America crown to Catherine Warren of Lake Forest. November 20, 2006, Gulseth presented at the International Emmy Awards held in New York City.
As the International Spokesmodel for Houbigant Paris, on November 4, 2007 Jill Marie attended and spoke at the Chicago "Moda" Latino Runway Show During the 1st Annual Latino Fashion Week in the United States.
Returning the following year, Gulseth won both the Mission Illinois United States of America crown and the Mission Photogenic award. In April 2005 Gulseth represented Illinois in the Mission United States of America 2005 pageant held in Baltimore, Maryland, wearing clothing she had made herself, and placed third runner-up to Chelsea Cooley of North Carolina. She was an education student at the University of Iowa when she won the pageant crown. Gulseth used her reign to promote breast cancer awareness, the official cause of the Mission United States of America program Gulseth is also a professional model and was offered a contract with Trump Model Management after she competed in Mission United States of America.
