Jiro Tsuji graduated from Engineering Faculty of Tokyo University (1923).
After serving as chief research worker at Physical and Chemical Research Institute (from 1937) became councilor, director and vice-president of same institute (1945); resigned following year (1946).
Nominated chairman of National Public Safety Commission (1948). Prior to this he was director (1939) and then president of Motion Picture Company attached to Physical and Chemical Research Institute and president of Gauge Manufacturing Company attached to same research institute.
Received degree of doctor of engineering for "Experimental Study of Elasticity of Light" (1930). Same year attended Third International Conference on Applied Dynamics, also attended International Conference on Power Science held in Germany and International Expositions held in France and Belgium.
High value was set upon his research on "Phonographic Fringe System in Experiment on Elasticity of Light" and for this work he was awarded Imperial Academy Prize. He has also been recipient of Imperial Grant for Invention from Imperial Society. Also, for series of re-searches including "Poisonous Gas Detector Used in Coal Mines" and "Research on Early Discovery of Spontaneous Combustion in Coal Mines" he was granted Education Ministry's subsidy for scientific experiment. He was decorated by the government for this invention. Jiro Tsuji was a president of Applied Physics Society and director of Precision Apparatus Society, Japan Standard Society and Japan Weights and Measures Institute.
Besides "Experimental Technology of Elasticity," his works include such essays as "Polarimeter," "Single Colored Lamp," "Revolving Mirror," "Lecture on Science," etc.
