Joan Matsuoka

Background

Joan was born in 1672, in Kyoto, Japan.

Education

Studied Confucianism under Ansai Yamazaki and Jinsai ltd and later botany under Jakusui Ino.

Career

He made a tour of Kinki district to observe botany from a practical point of view.

Later was called to Edo by the Shdgunate to classify botanical specimens in 1721.
