Background
Saint John Cassian was born around 360, in The Via Traiana Nova, or the (yiae) tres Traianae. He was the son of wealthy parents, he received a good education: his writings show the influence of Cicero and Persius. He was bilingual in Latin and Greek.
Career
Saint John Cassian mentioned in inscriptions with the Cassia and Clodia as under the same curator, are not certainly identifiable. Having regard to the military importance of Arretium during the Punic wars, it is difficult to believe that no direct road existed to this point before 187 B. C. 459.
