Joe Fyfe was born in 1952 in New York City, New York, United States.
Joe Fyfe received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia in 1976.
Joe Fyfe started his career in the early 1980s. Since then, he has presented his artworks in many international exhibitions, including the shows in the United States, France, Germany, Vietnam, Luxembourg, and other countries.
Fyfe has also tried his hand in academics in the capacities of visiting, adjunct professor, instructor, and lecturer at such institutions as the University of Tennessee, the Parsons School of Art and Design, the New York School, the Kent State University, Temple University, and Pratt Institute among others.
Fyfe’s essays and reviews on art have been featured in a number of periodicals, including Artforum, Art in America, Arts AsiaPacific, Artnet.com, Hyperallergic, Modern Matter, Kilimanjaro, and BOMB. The painter has also served as an art curator of about twenty exhibitions, at such venues as Halsey McKay Gallery, East Hampton; Zurcher Studio, and Apex Art, New York City.
Joe Fyfe is an accomplished artist and art critic whose talent has been marked by many fellowships and grants, including MacDowell Colony, Yaddo community, Fullbright Fellowship, Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant, Guggenheim Fellowship, and Pollock-Krasner Foundation.
He has been a recipient of such awards as the Bessie Awards, Artadia Award and Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence Award from the Academy of Arts and Letters.
