Johanan Bein served as ambassador of Israel to Finland, Norway, Tanzania, Germany, and the United States in 1969-1972. He was an ambassador to the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, 1972-1975.

In 1946 Johanan Bein joined Haganah, which became the core of the Israel Defense Forces. In 1948-1951, took part in many major battles as part of IDF.
