Career
Browne was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1989 general election and retained his seat at the 1992 and 1997 general elections, before retiring at the 2002 general election.

A former teacher, he was appointed to Seanad Éireann in 1983 by the Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald, but he was not returned again after Fine Gael lost power at the 1987 general election.
