JOHN BRUNGER was raised on a Michigan farm, drafted into the Army, served in Vietnam, attended universities, worked in the government, owned a business, and was later a Texas certified composite social studies teacher.
Background
Raised on a farm near Corunna, Michigan. The family farmed about 1200 acres growing corn, white winter wheat, oats, alfalfa, rye, barley, navy beans, and once grew buckwheat. The family raised chickens, sheep, pigs, cattle and goats. The family was one of the first in the area in 1965 to buy a four-wheel drive 1950 Oliver Detroit Diesel tractor that pulled a 8 bottom plow.
Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967, John was trained in the use of many firearms, bayonet training, and hand to hand combat. Served in the Republic of Vietnam with the 1st Aviation in 1968 as an OH6A helicopter crew chief (67v20). Received numerous military awards and citations. Obtained the rank of United States Army Specialist Five (E-5) in 5 months through meritorious promotion.
John's primary field of study involved U.S. government, world geography, history, and computers. He was awarded an internship under Governor Jimmy Carter's intern program in 1974 doing research on Nuclear Power Safety. He worked in the government for about 3 years.

John was a 1966 graduate of Corunna High School in Corunna, Michigan and a member of the FFA. He was awarded the State FFA Degree and won many FFA state contests. John is eternally grateful to a great FFA agriculture teacher named Mr. John A. Deppong whom was a graduate of Michigan State University.

Career
Retired with a distinguished career as a leader in academic, civic, and cultural pursuits; while integrating this experience into the community, state, and national level. Active in civic affairs belonging to the Civil Air Patrol, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), life member of the Vietnam Helicopter Crew Members Association, member of the Texas State Teachers Association, NRA, and Gun Owners of America. Participated as board member and or as an officer in civic organizations. Worked in the local, state, and federal government. Owned a battery business for a number of years. Was a certified Texas high school teacher for 19 years. He is retired and resides in Texas with his wife.
