(The importance of the issues raised by the WTO Agreement ...)
The importance of the issues raised by the WTO Agreement cannot be over-estimated. The completion of the Uruguay Round of negotiations has resulted in the creation of international agreements which themselves raise issues of great difficulty and importance in legal terms--issues of practical importance for international trade in goods and services and for the entire field of Intellectual Property Rights. This book examines the implementation of the GATT agreement, and its national and international legal and constitutional ramifications.

(A discussion of the strengths and limitations of the WTO ...)
A discussion of the strengths and limitations of the WTO and how it will need to adapt to meet new demands. Professor Jackson's previous book Reconstructing the GATT System (Chatham House Papers, 1990) played an influential role in stimulating debate on the overhaul of the constitution and institutional structures of the GATT. That debate gave rise to the World Trade Organisation. This organisation is now faced with new challenges in the form of greatly increased membership, notably from former communist countries, and a raft of potential other issues. In this new study, Professor Jackson discusses the strengths and limitations of the WTO and how it will need to adapt to meet new demands.
