He was born on 13 June 1860 and educated at Keble College, Oxford. Ordained in 1887 his first post was at Street John the Evangelist, Westminster. From 1890 he was Vicar at Chapel Allerton, and from 1904 until 1911 Street Mary, Redcliffe, Bristol.
