Ordained Baptist ministry, 1891. Assistant Eutaw Place Church, Baltimore, 1892-1893. Pastor North Avenue Church, Baltimore, and later associate pastor Eutaw Place Church, until 1902.

Pastor Narberth, Pennsylvania, and Central Church, Trenton, New Jersey, until 1909. Professor Baptist Institute for Christian Workers, Philadelphia, 1909-1911, president 1911-1937, now president emeritus. President Board of Education Northern Baptist Convention, 1925-1927.
