He was a Member (Member of Parliament) of the Parliament of England for Old Salisbury in 1547 and 1571, Plymouth in 1555, Devizes in 1559, and West Looe in 1563. He was appointed High Sheriff of Dorset for 1569-1570 and was a Justice of the Peace for Dorset and Somerset from c.1573. He was knighted in 1574.
