Reed, John Calvin was born on February 24, 1836 in Appling, Georgia, United States. Son of Review John W. and Sophia Amanda (Morgan) Reed.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Princeton, 1854, A.M., 1857. Studied law pvtly.; admitted to bar, 1857.

Career

Served 2d and First lieutenant and captain Company I, 8th Georgia Volumes, C.S.A., 1861-1865, participating in battles of Manassas, Gettysburg, Wilderness, etc. Twice wounded. Solicitor Oglethorpe County (Georgia) Court, 1866-1867. Grand Giant, Province of Oglethorpe County, in Ku Klux Klan, 1868-1871.

Member Atlanta city council, 1901-1902. Retired from bar, 1907, and settled at Montgomery, Alabama Author: Georgia Criminal Law, 1873. Conduct of Law Suits, 1875, 1885.
