Quotations:
“Upon retirement in 1985 as CEO of a large electric company, other members of the board urged me to undertake a corporate history in order to preserve the story of one of the very early power companies."
“Shortly after I retired, I wrote an article for the Journal of Supreme Court History titled ‘Justice Reed and Brown v. the Board of Education’ (1986). As a result, I was asked to write the chapter on Justice Reed when the Supreme Court Historical Society (SCHS) sponsored publication by Congressional Quarterly of The Supreme Court Justices: Illustrated Biographies, 1789-1993, recently updated by a second edition. My research for the chapter disclosed that not only had Justice Reed been neglected by biographers, but considerable information regarding his career in other biographies and histories was erroneous. Encouraged by the SCHS, I decided to undertake a biography, but had not expected to find the large volume of records which the justice’s sons had deposited in the archives at the University of Kentucky. The result was a very long tome which was originally scheduled for publication by a university press. Rather than make further cuts in historical details as requested by that press, I opted to have the book published by Vantage Press and I was pleased with the quality of their production work.”
Fassett was a member of Supreme Court Historical Society and Lakewood Country Club.
Fassett married Betty Jean Conrad on August 4, 1947. They have 3 children– Ellen Joy Fassett Mermin, John D. and Lora Jean Fassett Mason.
