Began testing subjects with polygraph Chicago Police Science Crime Detection Laboratory, 1940. Revised questioning technique in lie detector tests, 1947. Established John E. Reid & Associates Lab for Lie Detection, Chicago, 1947.

Founder Reid College for Detection of Deception. Devised Reid Report and Reid Survey (psychological questionnaires to determine job applicant and employee honesty.). Member Chicago Crime Commission.
