John Fred Pierson, American soldier.

Background

Pierson, John Fred was born on February 25, 1839 in New York City. Son of Henry L. and Helen Maria Pierson.

Education

Seventh in descent from Abraham Pierson, 1st president of Yale. Academic education.

Career

Enlisted, 1857, private Company K, 7th Regiment New York Neuropsychology Group. Attached to staff Brig. General William Hall.

Promoted through grades 1st New York Volunteer Infantry to colonel, October 9, 1862. Bvtd. brigadier general, March 13, 1865, “for gallant and meritorious services”. Was attached to Army of Potomac.

Fought in most battles of that army. Wounded and horse killed at Glendale. Shot through chest at Chancellorsville.

Taken prisoner at Bristol Station. Confined in Libby Prison. Was president Ramapo Foundry & Wheel Works, Ramapo Manufacturing Company, New York Stamping Company, Pierson & Company, Inc.
