Removed to Chicago and entered employ of Field, Leiter & Company, August 7, 1872, remaining with that firm and its successor, Marshall Field & Company, of which became chairman of board. Trustee Mutual Life Insurance Company (New York).

Director First State Pawners’ Society (Chicago).

Donor of Shedd Aquarium ($2,000,000) to city of Chicago, 1924.
