DUNNE, John Hart was born on December 11, 1835. A. of John Dunne of Cartron, Company Roscommon, and Marianne, daughter of Colonel Hart.
Studied at Private schools.
Ensign, Wiltshire Regiment, 1852. Lieutenant, R. Scots Fusiliers, 1854. Major-General 1881; General 1893.
Served through Crimean campaign, 1854-1855, in battles of Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman, and siege of Sevastopol. Served throughout the China War of 1860. Carried and hoisted the Union Jack at the capture of the Inner North Taku Fort.
Was with the advance guard at the action of Changiawhan and Poliatchan and capture of Pekin. Commanded 2nd Infantry Brigade, Aldershot, 1885-1886. Thames District, Chatham, 1887 - 90.
Lieutenant Tower of London, 1894-1897. Holds 1st Class Medjidie. Grand Cordon Order of Medjidie. 1907; retired; Colonel Duke of Edinburgh’s Wiltshire Regiment.
