In a series that explores the logic-defying comebacks and tough losses, the dramatic interceptions, fumbles, game-winning field goals, and touchdowns that shape a fan’s greatest memories of their beloved team, this book does not disappoint as the ultimate collector’s item for Giants fans. It chronicles the most famous moments in the New York Giants’ football history, including the shocking upset of Super Bowl XLII, Pat Summerall's 49-yard field goal in the snow in 1958, Phil Simms’ fourth down and 17 strike against the Vikings in 1986, defeating the 49ers on the final play in 1991, and Lawrence Taylor's 97-yard interception return to defeat the Lions on Thanksgiving. The descriptions of each play are accompanied with game information and quotes from participants, players, and observers with firsthand accounts.

(The Philadelphia Eagles are a storyteller’s dream team, p...)
The Philadelphia Eagles are a storyteller’s dream team, populated by some of the quirkiest and most colorful players, coaches, and management in all of pro football history. These characters have taken part in some of the strangest, funniest, wildest, and most disturbing events in football lore. Like their fans, the Eagles are not shy or retiring—win or lose, they make their presence known. Through the framework of trivia quizzes, author John Maxymuk tells some of the stories that best highlight who the Philadelphia Eagles are and why they mean so much to fans. A total of 660 wide-ranging, mind-bending questions—on History, Glory and Rivalries, Players and Positions, Management, the Offbeat, and Records—will test the real fanatic’s depth of knowledge about the Birds. And, as Hall of Fame football writer Ray Didinger notes in his introduction, "to a true Eagles fan nothing about the team is trivial."

( When the T formation became the standard offense in the...)
When the T formation became the standard offense in the NFL in the 1940s, one man was elevated to a greater position of importance than any other on the field: the quarterback. A few years later in 1950, two-platoon football was made permanent, allowing the quarterback to focus solely on offense without also having to play defensive back on the other side of the ball. Since then, 338 men have started at least 10 NFL games. Quarterback Abstract brings them all together along with 27 other significant pre-1950 passers to answer three questions about each quarterback: Who was he? What was his playing style? How good was he? Each quarterback is rated from one-half to 5 stars, with five given only to the greatest Hall of Fame–caliber players. Each player's basic statistical career totals are supplied both for the regular season and the postseason, along with each quarterback's won-lost record, and his fourth-quarter comebacks. A relative passer rating is provided to accurately compare the players across the game's history. An appendix lists the records of those quarterbacks who started fewer than 10 games as well as several forgotten early quarterbacks from the 1940s.

(Signal caller, gunslinger, field general--the quarterback...)
Signal caller, gunslinger, field general--the quarterback goes by many lofty nicknames. It's arguably the toughest, most high-pressure position to play among all sports. The quarterback touches the ball on every offensive snap, is responsible for reading the defense, adjusting the play, and executing complex schemes that require tremendous physical and mental prowess. He is expected to be the undisputed team leader, whether he's an established veteran or an untested rookie. If he succeeds, he's the most likely player on the field to be canonized by fans and broadcasters. If he fails, he ll be vilified in the press and his home field fans will start cheering for the backup. This book traces the interesting history of the professional quarterback, from the early years when the quarterback was a blocker (and the appellations quarterback, halfback, and fullback were literal and geographically correct) to the modern-day player who must be the eyes, ears, brains, and, of course, the accurate, strong arm of the offense. The narrative history in Section I is rich with statistical analysis. The author employs realistic metrics for statistical comparison across multiple eras, and includes all-time rankings as well as specific rankings among different styles of quarterbacks. Section II compares quarterbacks within their respective eras, putting their accomplishments in context with those of their contemporaries. Section III breaks down the quarterback position, team-by-team, for current NFL franchises. Appendices provide detailed passing records; additional statistics on everything from relative passer ratings to fourth quarter comebacks; and listings of first round draft picks, trades involving quarterbacks, awards, and uniform numbers.
