Kessler attended Texas Tech University, where he studied finance and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree between 1965 and 1971.
Kessler began his professional career as an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Lubbock, Texas, serving from 1970 to 1973. He then worked as a pension trust administrator for Republican National Life in Dallas from 1973 to 1978 and for American Founders Life in Austin from 1979 to 1981.
From 1981 to 1984, he served as an accountant for state appropriations with the Texas State Comptroller's office in Austin. In 1984, he established his own financial planning practice in Dallas under the name Jean Paul Kessler & Associates. He has also served as a pension consultant with Kessler Financial Group since 1984.
In 1995, his practice became affiliated with Pinnacle Planning Group, formerly known as Kessler Financial Associates, where he continued his work as a financial planner.
Kessler has been a member of several professional and business organizations, including the American Management Association, the Dallas Estate Planning Council, the Dallas Employee Benefit Association, the North Dallas Finance Forum, the National Association of Securities Dealers as a registered representative, the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association, and the McKinney Chamber of Commerce.
