Began as reporter New Orleans Picayune, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1891, and successively literature critic, war correspondent (Spanish-American War, Cuban Revolution 1906, Nicaraguan Revolution 1912), editor magazine section until 1914. Published articles on leprosy resulting in establishment of State Leprosarium at Indian Camp (now United States Leprosarium at Carrville, Louisiana). Made several trips as correspondent to Europe, Mexico, Central America and West Indies.

Member Tennessee State Common for Study of Battle of New Orleans, 1927-1934. Member Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Upsilon, Theta Nu fraternities. Literary representative Rex Carnival Society, 1899-1939.
Has written a guide to New Orleans, passing through numerous editions.
