Teacher, high school, Pocomoke, 1878-1880. Teacher mathematics and natural sciences, Morris Academy, Morristown, 1883-1888. Admitted to New Jersey bar, 1888, later appointed special master in chancery and Superior Court commissioner.
Practiced at Dover with Honorary Mahlon Pitney (justice Supreme Court of the United States Court).
Removed to Jersey City, 1889. Private secretary to Governor George T. Werts, 1893-1896.
Devotes attention largely to Court of Chancery, and to management of estates. Now associated in practice with son, John Doctorate. President Children’s Friend Society of Jersey City.
