Stewart, John Truesdale was born on January 13, 1868 in Loda, Illinois, United States. Son of William R. and Nancy (Barr) Stewart.


Bachelor of Science in C.E., University of Illinois, 1893, C.E., 1909.


In private practice to 1897. Field assistant, topographic corps, United States Geological Survey, 1898-1903. Drainage engineer, United States Department of Agriculture, 1904-1908.

Professor and chief div. of agricultural engineering, University of Minnesota, 1908-1917. Cadet officer University of Illinois. Brevetted captain Illinois National Guard, 1893.

Organized and drilled company for Spanish-American War, 1898, but not called into service. Major, Engineers United States.R., on active duty, May 26, 1917. Lieutenant colonel engrs., October 18, 1918.

Honorary discharge, October 13, 1919. Lieutenant colonel E.O.R.C., January 31, 1920, colonel January 14, 1924. In charge of educational activities in schools and colleges for Portland Cement Association, January 1921-March 1922.

Consulting engineer, drainage and wet land development, April since 1922.
