Educated Yale until 1879. Widower. Reporter, dramatic critic, editorial writer and managing editor on Truth, Dramatic News, Times, World, Press, Recorder and Journal, New York, from 1879. President and commissioner of Public Charities of New York, 1898-1902.

Delaware Democratic National Convention, Kansas City, 1900, and was named in caucus as candidate of State of New York for vice-presidential nomination.

President Democratic Club of New York, 1899-1900. Member Executive Committee Tammany Hall, 1898-1903.
