Joji Tsubota was born on the 3d of March, 1890, in Okayama Prefecture, Japan.
Tsubota graduated from Waseda University in English literature (1915).
Joji Tsubota served as a librarian and took to writing at Waseda University. His first work a novel entitled "Shota's Horse" published in Shinshosetsu magazine won favorable comment, but his reputation was finally established with ''The World of a Ghost'' which appeared in Kaizo magazine (1934). Most representative of his works is (Zenta and Sampein (names of two boys).
