Jonathan Ree was born in 1948 in the United Kingdom.
Jonathan studied at Sussex University and then at Oxford University.
For many years Jonathan Ree was a Professor of Philosophy at Middlesex University, but gave up a teaching career in order to become freelance writer and philosopher. Ree was a founding member and editor of the British journal and group Radical Philosophy. He has also written for the New Humanist, Evening Standard, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Lingua Franca, London Review of Books, Prospect, The Independent, the Times Literary Supplement, and Rising East. Ree's books include Philosophical Tales, Proletarian Philosophers, and I See a Voice. His most recent writing is Witcraft: The Invention of Philosophy in English, which was published in May 2019.
In the early 1990s Ree presented a seven-part Channel 4 TV series Talking Liberties, which featured Rée in conversation with a number of thinkers, including Jacques Derrida, Paul Ricoeur, and Edward Said. Today he is frequently a guest in radio programmes such as Journeys In Thought and In Our Time.
