He is a graduate of New York City"s Stuyvesant High School (1987), and of the University of Pennsylvania. Sonnenblick taught 8th grade English at Phillipsburg Middle School in New Jersey for eleven years before he decided to start writing books, debuting with the novel Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. The inspiration for his debut novel is the cancer-stricken brother of one of his students.
He has always wanted to be an author and also plays the guitar and drums.
