In Paris and Madrid from 1907 until his return to Cuba in 1910. Entered the Cuban consular service shortly thereafter and served successively in Madrid, Lisbon, Vigo, New York, and Philadelphia until 1932, when he was summarily dismissed by Machado from the last named post, after a tenure of ten years. Instructor of Spanish in the University of Pennsylvania, 1932.
Since then has resided in Mexico.
Married Mercedes Garcia del Valle. Children: Héctor. Selfeducated prior to his matriculation as a special student in the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Havana.
