José Luis Villa Ramírez is a Colombian electronic engineer, university professor, researcher, and academic administrator whose work focuses on automatic control, dynamic-system modeling, industrial-process control, and engineering education. He has been associated with the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar, where he has served as professor, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and director of an automation and control research group.
Education
José Luis Villa Ramírez studied electronic engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He subsequently completed graduate studies in electronic and computer engineering at the Universidad de los Andes, where he obtained a Master of Science degree and a doctorate in engineering. He also completed doctoral training in automatic control at the University of Nantes in France. His academic formation combined electronic engineering with automatic control, dynamic-system modeling, and industrial-process analysis.
Career
Villa Ramírez began his academic career as a professor at the Universidad de los Andes, where he worked from 2003 to 2005. He joined the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar as a professor in the Faculty of Engineering and developed a long-term teaching and research career in electrical and electronic engineering. At the university he has worked on modeling and simulation, automatic control, predictive control, industrial-process control, remote engineering laboratories, autonomous vehicles, and applications of automation in engineering education. He served as dean of the Faculty of Engineering during 2007–2008 and has subsequently continued to hold senior academic responsibilities, including service as dean and direction of the university's automation and control research activities. His research has addressed dynamic-system analysis, control of chemical and industrial processes, mixed logical dynamical systems, model-predictive control, and engineering applications of automation.
Membership
Villa Ramírez has been associated with the Grupo de Automatización Industrial y Control (GAICO) at the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar, where he has served as director. The group conducts research in automatic control, industrial automation, dynamic-system modeling, and related engineering applications.
