He began architectural study in the New York office of Hugh Roberts. Later he worked as draftsman, employed successively with Ernest Flagg and the firm of Carrere & Hastings, afterward became office manager and assistant of Henry Van Buren Magonigle.
Mr. Cardiff was perhaps best known as the author of numerous articles on architectural subjects. He also prepared and published the Architectural Index for the Avery Library at Columbia University, a task for which his training and experience in the field of building materials and appliances ably fitted him.
