Birmingham; Antwerp; Studied art at Birmingham School of Art and Antwerp Academy, under Charles Verlat.
Returned to England, 1881. Made eighteen months’ painting tour in Malta, Greece, Turkey, South Russia, and Bessarabia. While in South Russia received medal for portrait painting at Triennial Exhibition at Odessa.
Settled in London, 1884. Worked on The Graphic, Black and White, 1889-1900. Since then on The Sphere.
Has worked for the majority of monthly illustrated magazines. Many books for Blackie, Chambers, Cassell. Colour work for English and foreign colour printers. R.I., R.C.A., Illustrator and Painter.
