In 1948, Gerasimov graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Ural State University in Sverdlovsk.
In 1948-1955 Gerasimov was a special correspondent of the newspaper "Soviet Moldavia". In 1955-1959, he was an employee of the magazine "Dnester" in Kishinev. From 1947 Gerasimov had his works published in such magazines as "Novy Mir", "Znamya", "Neva", "Molodaya Gvardiya", "Pod’em". In 1960-1965 he lived in Voronezh, where he wrote novels "Far Vega", "Nightingales" (about Novovoronezh NPP), "Circles on the water" (with Voronezh motives).
