Came to American, 1849. Settled in Philadelphia, circa 1850. Became well known for his busts and statues.
Became member Pennsylvania Academy, 1856, instructor in sculpture, 1876-1877.
Better known works include busts of General Grant and General Meade, a statue of Benjamin Franklin, equestrian statue of President Blanco of Venezuela, 2 groups known as The Expulsion, The First Prayer (now in Pennsylvania Academy).
