In 1964 he graduated from the Vaganova Leningrad Choreography School, in 1970 he ended Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
In 1987-1992 Ivan was the Board Chairman of Artists’ Union in Voronezh, since 2007 he is People's Artist of the Russian Federation and the laureate of the "Golden Fund of the Voronezh Region" prize. Since 1976 Ivan was a lecturer at the Voronezh Engineering and Construction Institute (Voronezh State Academy of Architecture and Construction), since 1995 he is a professor there. In 1988-1995 Ivan was a professor at the Voronezh Art School (together with his wife Pak Elsa Nikolaevna). His main works: "Portrait of the Weaver Solovyova" (1972, Kramskoy Regional Art Museum in Voronezh), "Monument to the Fallen" (1973, Pavlovsk).
His wife is a famous sculptor Elsa Nikolayevna Pak. They have 3 children: sons Alexey Dikunov and Maxim Dikunov, who are sculptors as well, and daughter Natalia.
