Joyce Rossi

Background

Joyce Rossi was born on July 11, 1943, in Marin County, California, United States. She is a daughter of Harold Muller, an insurance agent, and Hazel Muller, a homemaker.

Education

Joyce received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Career

In 1965-1968, Joyce held the post of a third-grade teacher in Reno, Nevada. Between 1983 and 1985, she served as a graphic designer in Reno as well. Since 1985, Rossi has been acting as a freelance illustrator. Besides, during the period from 1995 till 1998, she worked as a regional adviser to the Sierra Nevada chapter at the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.

As for her writing career, Joyce penned the book, titled "The Gullywasher" (1995). She also illustrated such works, as "Fairy Tales for the New Age" (1992) and "Winker, Buttercup and Blue" (1994), written by Arlene Williams. Moreover, Rossi painted murals and portraits and sold them at festivals and in galleries.

Achievements

• Joyce Rossi is mostly known as an illustrator and author of the book, titled "The Gullywasher" (1995). This work was a Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP) Commended Book and has been featured on Public Television's Storytime.
  
  Joyce received the Sierra Arts Foundation Grant in 1996 and Arizona Author/Illustrator Award in 1999.
