Laura Kvasnosky is an American writer and illustrator.
Background
Laura Kvasnosky was born on January 27, 1951 in Sacramento, California, United States, into the family of Harvey C. and Helen (McDonald) McGee. She grew up as one of five children in a newspaper family that provided the grist for many of her stories as a noted children’s writer and illustrator.
Education
In 1973 Laura received Bachelor of Arts at Occidental College. In 1994 she studied writing at Centum in Port Townsend, Washington, United States. Moreover, she studied illustration at Seattle’s School of Visual Concepts in Seattle, Washington, United States.
Career
Laura began her work career at the age of eight, sharpening pencils for her editor-father. Over the years she contributed in the advertising and editorial departments of his newspaper too. When her children were small, she created over 10,000 Christmas ornaments in her kitchen. Then, in 1980, she started her own graphic design firm. She decided to go for a lifelong dream of publishing a children’s book when she turned forty.
Kvasnosky’s first published works for children were the self-illustrated board books "One, Two, Three, Play with Me" and "Pink, Red, Blue, What are You?", published in 1994. Another of Kvasnosky’s self-illustrated books for preschoolers. "See You Later, Alligator", features a group of young reptiles whose parents begin the day by dropping them off at River Bottom School. Kvasnosky has also written picture books for independent readers.

Laura is best known for her series of “Zelda and Ivy” books featuring two fox sisters, the older and bossy Zelda, and her adoring younger sibling, Ivy.
