He started as the samisen player of lato-bushi music with the stage name of Shinjiro Yamabiko.
Joyu Sugano became an Itchu-bushi samisen player (1792) with the name of Joyii Sugano I. He and Itchii cooperated in restoring ltchu-bushi.
