Kiss, Jozsef Zoltan was born on August 9, 1953 in Budapest, Hungary. Son of Jozsef Kiss and Borbala Csorba.

Research associate Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest, 1979—1981, 1984—1985, University Iowa, Iowa City, 1981—1982. Visiting associate National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, 1982—1984. Visiting scientist Rudolf Magnus institute University Utrecht, Netherlands, 1985—1986.

From lecturer to associate professor University Geneva, 1986—2000, associate professor, 2000—2007, full professor, since 2007.


  • Achievements include discovery of CRF vasopressin producing neurons in the neuroendocrine hypothalamus. Discovery of role of vascular endothelial growth factor as chemoattractant for neural progenitors and stem cells. Research in neural plasticity such as the description of the role polysialic neural cell adhesion mulecule in synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis.

    Research in developing new methods to replace brain tissue lost to stroke.


Member of Swiss Neuroscience Society, Americal Neuroscience Society.
