Teacher, inspector, general superintendent of schools, until 1910. Began the practice of law, 1911. Member of the House of Delegates, 1911-1920 (speaker, 1919).
Commissioner of Education of Porto Rico, appointed by President Harding, 1921.
Reappointed by President Coolidge, 1926. Acting governor of Porto Rico, 1922.
Trustee of the University of Porto Rico since 1914 (president of the board since 1921). Senior Huyke in his teachings and writings had advocated the Americanization of Porto Rico.
