Early work was concentrated on testing alternative development and trade theories, with emphasis on developing countries. Then interest shifted to the analysis of the impact of economic policies on growth, resource allocation, foreign trade and foreign investment. Contributed to empirical analysis of changes in the international division of labour.
Currently engaged in research on European economic integration and on economic policy problems of West Germany. Other main work has been in analysing Spain’s economic growth in comparative perspective.
